Terms and Conditions

On receipt of your deposit we deem that you have read and accepted these terms and conditions.

1.Price

The price for the order shall be as stated on the written or verbal quotation provided to you and is valid for 30 days from the date of quotation.

2. Deposit 

2.1 Celebration Cakes

In order to secure your celebration cake order we require a £15 deposit which, once paid, is non-refundable. This is a fee to secure the date you require and is also to cover the necessary time given to your order prior to your event date - this may include some of the following; administration, emails, phone calls or purchase of any decoration/toppers specific to your cake. If no deposit is received the date will be made available to another customer. Any deposit paid is deducted from the final balance of your cake order. 

2.2 Wedding Cakes

In order to secure your wedding cake order we require a £100 deposit which, once paid, is non-refundable. This is a fee to secure the date you require and is also to cover the necessary time given to your order prior to your wedding date - this may include some of the following; administration, emails, phone calls, consultations, wedding cake samples etc. If no deposit is recieved the date will be made available to another customer. Any deposit paid is deducted from the final balance of your cake order. 

If you prefer to pay a deposit after coming for a consultation/tasting samples we can hold your wedding date for one week after meeting/collecting samples. If someone would like to book the same date in the meantime we will notify you first and ask if you would like to secure the date with a deposit.

3. Final Payment

3.1 Celebration Cakes

The final balance for your order is due ONE WEEK before your order date. If the final payment is not received a reminder may be sent, if no further payment is made we will consider the order cancelled and the deposit lost.

3.2 Wedding Cakes

Final payment for wedding cakes is due no later than ONE MONTH before the wedding date. If the final payment is not received a reminder may be sent, if no further payment is made we will consider the order cancelled and the deposit lost.

4. Cancellations/Refunds

4.1 Celebration Cakes

If you cancel your order with MORE THAN ONE WEEKS notice your deposit will be retained by The Little Cake Box. This is to cover administration time and any monies lost as The Little Cake Box will have turned away other business for your order. If you cancel with LESS THAN ONE WEEKS notice, and after the final balance has been paid, it is unlikely we will fill the slot so 100% of the cake cost will be retained by The Little Cake Box.

In the event of exceptional circumstances, such as serious illness (or similar) on our part, The Little Cake Box will give as much notice as possible if we are unable to fulfil your order. We will endeavour to find someone else who can produce your order and will refund you any monies already paid.

The Little Cake Box shall not be liable for any failure to perform, where such failure or delay results from any circumstances outside our reasonable control  and in the nature of force majeure. This includes, but is not limited to, an act of God, war, riot, civil commotion, malicious damage, pandemic, compliance with any law or governmental order, rule or regulation, accident, fire, flood or storm. The Little Cake Box shall not be in breach of this contract resulting from such an event and we are not liable for any refunds. In this instance, all monies paid would be transferred over to a new date (subject to availability).

4.2 Wedding Cakes

If you cancel your order with MORE THAN ONE MONTHS notice your deposit will be retained by The Little Cake Box. This is to cover administration time and any monies lost as The Little Cake Box will have turned away other business for your order. If you cancel with LESS THAN ONE MONTHS notice, and after the final balance has been paid, it is unlikely we will fill the slot so 100% of the cake cost will be retained by The Little Cake Box. We strongly advise you take out wedding insurance to cover all eventualities.

We will endeavour to find someone else who can produce your order and will refund you any monies already paid.

5. Design Alterations/Change of Date

5.1 Celebration Cakes

If you need to make any alterations to your order please notify The Little Cake Box as soon as possible. We will endeavour to accommodate any changes but cannot make any guarantees . Modifications to the design must be made no later than one week before the order date. If you request a change to the order date we will do what we can to fit you in, however if we are already fully booked on the new date your deposit (or the full amount if it's less than a week before the order date) will not be refunded.

5.2 Wedding Cakes

If you need to make any alterations to your wedding cake please notify The Little Cake Box as soon as possible. We will endeavour to accommodate any changes but cannot make any guarantees . Modifications to the design must be made no later than one month before your wedding. If you request a change of wedding date we will do what we can to fit you in, however if we are already fully booked on the new date your deposit (or the full amount if it's less than one month before your wedding) will not be refunded. 

6. Cake Designs

All of our cakes are individually designed and hand crafted, therefore there will be slight differences when duplicating any of our existing designs. We reserve the right to make any minor alterations to a design if we feel it helps with the overall look and balance of the cake. Should we need to make more major changes we will notify you as soon as possible.

7. Cake Component Parts and Colours

Depending on the design, on occasion it may be necessary to use non edible supports or other items in your cake. We will always make you aware of this when you receive your cake by providing you with a written information sheet. From time to time certain materials for our cakes may become obsolete or no longer available from our suppliers, for example pre-manufactured items or ribbon colours. This is totally outside of our control, however we will endeavour to redesign a cake as closely as possible to the original design using replacement products. In all cases we will try to contact you to advise of any such changes, however The Little Cake Box reserves the right to replace these with components of equal or better quality without consultation.

The Little Cake Box will endeavour to match colours of ribbons where possible, but if no swatch is provided we cannot be held responsible for any slight differences in colour.

8. Delivery and Collection

8.1 Celebration Cakes

We provide a delivery service in Canterbury at a rate of £5. Once a cake is delivered we cannot take any responsibility for any breakages or damage. It is your responsibility to provide correct delivery information and to ensure that someone is available to receive the cake. If the recipient is not in, the order will be returned to The Little Cake Box and it is then the customers’ responsibility to rearrange the delivery (for an additional charge) or collection. The Little Cake Box accepts no liability for any loss incurred by the customer as a result.

Should we be physically unable to deliver your cake in circumstances such as, but not limited to, an act of God, war, riot, civil commotion, malicious damage, pandemic, compliance with any law or governmental order, rule or regulation, accident, fire, flood or storm, The Little Cake Box shall not be liable for any breach of contract resulting from such an event. The Little Cake Box will accept no liability for our inability to deliver the cake or lateness under circumstances that are unforeseen or out of our control.

If you are collecting your cake please ensure you have a flat space in your boot or the footwell of your car. We do not recommend transporting your cake on a car seat due to the tilted nature. Once you arrive at your destination please store your cake/cupcakes in the box provided, away from sunlight and not in the refrigerator. We cannot be held liable for any damage caused once your order leaves our premises. 

A photograph of your cake will be taken just before collection or delivery of your cake, both for promotional purposes and to verify the cake is in a good, stable condition.

8.2 Wedding Cakes

There is no charge for the delivery and set-up of your wedding cake if your venue is within a 10 mile radius of our home bakery in Canterbury. For venues further than 10 miles a delivery charge will apply and there may also be an extra set-up cost for our time if your venue is particularly far.

It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure the venue supplies a suitable table and location for the cake to be displayed. The Little Cake Box is not liable for the cake once it has been set up and we have left the venue. A photograph of your cake will be taken just before we leave the venue, both for promotional purposes and to verify the cake has been left in a good, stable condition.

If you choose to collect your cake and transport it yourself, we are not liable for any damage to the cake once it has left our premises. You should ensure that your vehicle is suitable for transporting the cake before collecting it. We will do everything we can to provide a well structured and stable cake but please note, cakes can be very fragile so you must drive carefully.

9. Cake Stand Hire (Weddings Only)

Cake stands can be hired from The Little Cake Box for a small fee plus a refundable deposit. You are responsible for returning the stand back to us within 3 working days of your wedding (we do not collect it from the venue). Any damage or loss of the stand will result in the deposit being retained.

10. Allergies

Please notify us of any allergies when placing your order. Some cakes can be made without nuts, gluten and alcohol but please be aware that all of our cakes are prepared in a kitchen that uses all of these ingredients. Therefore, we are unable to guarantee our cakes are “free from” these ingredients due to the risk of cross contamination. We will provide you with a list of allergens that your cake contains. It is your responsibility to notify any guests of allergens present.

11. Shelf Life

Your cake is baked to ensure it is as fresh as possible for your event. We cannot guarantee it’s quality if it is consumed more than 48 hours after the event. Our cakes are made entirely of natural ingredients and it is for this reason they will not have the extended shelf life of most supermarket cakes which contain additives and preservatives. In order to keep your cake in optimum condition it must be stored out of sunlight and at room temperature. Cakes should not be refrigerated prior to cutting or serving as the decoration and covering can spoil due to the moisture in a refrigerator. Tiered cakes will be supported by plastic dowel rods which will need to be removed before serving. Once cut, your cake should be wrapped well in cling-film o prevent it drying out. Although it is safe to freeze your cake, we cannot guarantee the quality of the cake after freezing.

12. Complaints

In the event you wish to make a complaint, please do so in writing within 24 hours. Any refund given for disputes regarding a cake design or the quality of a cake are completely at the discretion of The Little Cake Box and are not automatic. Full refunds will never be given for any cake which has been consumed regardless of the dispute as consumption of the cake is viewed as acceptance that the cake is adequate for the purpose for which it has been supplied.
