The Little Cake Box is a home bakery in Canterbury (Kent) and has no retail premises. We are registered with Canterbury City Council Environmental Health Department and have been awarded the top 5* star hygiene rating. Visits to our home bakery are by appointment only and the address will be given to you when you collect your cake or come along for a consultation.
Yes, all celebration cake orders require a 50% non-refundable deposit to secure the date. The remaining balance is payable a week before collection or delivery. For orders with less than 2 weeks notice (or less than a month for weddings), payment is required in full. For all wedding orders a £100 deposit books your cake and the balance is payable a month before your wedding. Unfortunately we are not able to hold or reserve dates without a deposit.
We are often booked up many weeks, sometimes months, ahead of time so the sooner the better to reserve your place in our diary. For wedding cakes we recommend getting in touch at least 12 months beforehand, sometimes earlier if it's during the peak summer months between May-September. We try to accommodate last minute requests if our schedule allows. Please call or email to find out our availability for your particular date.
We do not make sugar free, vegan, dairy-free or eggless cakes. However, some of our recipes can be made without gluten. Our cakes are baked in a kitchen that uses gluten, dairy and nuts. A list of allergens will be provided with your cake and we always leave an allergen information sheet at venues when delivering wedding cakes.
We provide a delivery service for celebration cakes within the Canterbury area only at a rate of £5. For wedding cakes we deliver at no extra charge for venues within a 10 mile radius. Venues more than 10 miles are charged on a per mile basis and this will be included in your quote when you make an enquiry. We regret we cannot ship cakes abroad or outside of Kent due to their delicate nature .
Our cakes do not like being put in the refrigerator! Once you have received the cake, you can store it in it's box in a cool, dry place and out of direct sunlight. You can freeze cakes once they have been cut to preserve them (wrap well in cling film). If you would like to keep any decorations such as sugar flowers or figurines, remove them from the cake and store in a container preferably with some anti-moisture crystals.
If you are collecting your cake we recommend you transport it in the empty boot of your car. This will ensure it stays flat during transportation. We advise against putting tiered cakes on seats as they are more likely to tip or slip.
We only hire our stands out for weddings. A refundable deposit is required plus there is also a hire charge. All stands need to be returned back to us within 3 days of your wedding (we don't collect them from the venue). The deposit will be refunded back to you via bank transfer once we receive the stand in the same condition.
A non-cake tier may be introduced to add scale and drama to a design. Any false tiers incorporated into your design will be decorated in the same manner as the remainder of the cake. Please bear in mind that adding a 'dummy' tier will not substantially reduce the price of the overall cake as the time taken to decorate needs to be factored in.
Absolutely! We encourage different flavours of cake to offer guests a choice. There is no additional charge for selecting multiple flavours. If you choose fruit cake this will need to be on the bottom tier due to the weight (extra charges apply to fruit cake only).
Fresh flowers dress a cake beautifully and look amazing. We don't supply the flowers but we are very happy to liaise with your florist or have some great contacts if you don't have one arranged already for your wedding. Some flowers are toxic and cannot be put on cakes but your florist will be able to advise you. Sugarcraft flowers are a wonderful alternative and can be kept as a momento of your special day.
